Express Mail

Express mail is a service available to mailers for shipment of any approved mailable matter that is submitted to the post office with properly prepared express mail labels (air bills) for either domestic or international destinations. The Express Mail service guarantee for domestic destinations is 1 or 2 day delivery, based on destination zip code (contact Mail Service for guarantee). There is no guarantee for international destinations, and not all countries accept express mail shipments, so please contact Mail Service for availability and customs requirements. Express Mail provides automatic indemnity coverage of up to $100 at no extra charge for items that are lost, rifled, or damaged. Additional insurance may be purchased up to a maximum liability of $5,000. For negotiable items, currency, or bullion, the maximum liability is $15. Express Mail can be tracked on the US Postal Service web site www.usps.com or by calling their tracking line at 1-800-222-1811.

Registered Mail ~ Domestic Destinations

Registered mail is the most secure service offered by the USPS and is the safest way to send valuables through the mail system. The full value of the mailing must be declared when mailed for security and insurance purposes. Included in the value-based registration fee is insurance protection up to $25,000.00. Only first class and priority mail may be registered. You will automatically obtain a return receipt. You may request restricted delivery in which the addressee only may sign for the item. Registered mail cannot be enclosed in padded or tyvek envelopes, and cannot be sealed with slick tape (such as scotch tape). Tracking online is not yet available for this service; however, you can fill out a tracer form for lost items by contacting Mail Service. Registered mail may not be placed in a post office mail drop or in a street letterbox.

Registered Mail ~ International Destinations

Registered mail is available to most international destinations.  The full value of the mailing must be declared when mailed for security and insurance purposes.  Included in the registration fee is indemnity insurance protection up to $43.73, and no additional insurance is available.  Registered mail is available only on items sent via First-Class Mail International, Priority Mail International Flat-rate Envelope and Free Matter for the Blind.  Return receipt and restricted delivery (only the addressee may sign for the item) are not available to all destinations. Registered mail cannot be enclosed in padded or tyvek envelopes, and cannot be sealed with slick tape (such as scotch tape).  Tracking online is not yet available for this service; however, you can fill out a tracer form for lost items by contacting Mail Service.  Registered mail may not be placed in a post office mail drop or in a street letterbox.

Insured Mail

You can obtain payment for loss of, rifling of, or damage to both domestic and international mail by having it insured.  The maximum available insurance is $5,000.00; however, insurance is not available to all countries and some countries have lower insurance maximums, so please contact Mail Service for availability, limits and customs requirements.  Insurance covers the actual value of the contents, and is subject to certain limitations and exclusions.  Please call Mail Service for complete terms.  Insured mail may be used on all classes of domestic mail, and is available only for Priority Mail International items NOT packaged in USPS Flat-rate envelopes.  Insured parcels must be accompanied by Customs Form 2976-A, and do not require the use of an insured form.  International insured items must a bold “V” written on form 2976-A in the Insured Number space and the declared value written in the Insured Amount space.  Return receipt and restricted delivery are available for domestic items insured for more than $50 and to select international destinations. Insured mail may not be placed in a post office mail drop or in a street letterbox.  Tracking online is not yet available for this service; however, you can fill out a tracer form for lost items by contacting Mail Service.  Use Form 3813 for items insured for $200 or less, and form 3813-P for items insured for over $200.

Certified Mail

Certified Mail is available for domestic first class and priority mail only. Certified mail provides a receipt to the sender and a record of delivery, which is kept at the office from which it was mailed. No insurance coverage is available. You may request a return receipt and restricted delivery. You may obtain certified forms from Mail Service. Certified Mail can be tracked on the US Postal Service web site www.usps.com or by calling their tracking line at 1-800-222-1811. Delivery record is maintained by USPS.

Return Receipt ~ Domestic Mail

A return receipt is your proof of delivery. It is available on mail insured for more than a $50.00 value, and on certified, registered, and express mail. The return receipt identifies the article by number, who signed for it and the date it was delivered. For an additional fee you may obtain a receipt showing the exact address of delivery. You may request restricted delivery service by which delivery is confined to the addressee only, or to an individual authorized in writing to receive mail of the addressee.

Return Receipt ~ International Mail

A return receipt is your proof of delivery. It is available on express mail, insured parcels and registered letters to certain international destinations. The return receipt identifies the article by number, who signed for it and the date it was delivered. You may request restricted delivery service by which delivery is confined to the addressee only, or to an individual authorized in writing to receive mail of the addressee where available. Please contact Mail Service regarding availability.

Certificate of Mailing

A certificate of mailing provides evidence of mailing only and is available for domestic and international mail. A receipt is not obtained upon delivery of the mail to the addressee. The fee paid for certificate of mailing does not insure the article from loss or damage. Items may not be placed in a post office mail drop or in a street letterbox.

Delivery Confirmation

Delivery Confirmation provides time, date and zip code of delivery or attempt of delivery information for domestic mailings. It does not provide the name of the person accepting delivery. It can be used on priority mail, first class parcels or package services parcels. Delivery Confirmation is not available for APO/FPO destinations; U.S. territories, possessions, and freely-associated states (except for Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands, to which service is available) or to mail paid with pre-canceled stamps. It may be combined with insured or Registered Mail. Restricted delivery is available if purchased with insurance for over $50 or Registered Mail. Return receipt is available if purchased with insurance for over $50 or Registered Mail. Delivery confirmation can be tracked on the US Postal Service web site at www.usps.com or by calling their tracking line at 1-800-222-1811.

Signature Confirmation

Signature Confirmation provides time and date of delivery or attempted delivery. A delivery record, including recipient’s signature is maintained by the US Postal Service and is available via fax or mail upon request. Signature Confirmation is available for items sent via priority mail, first class parcels and package services parcels. Service is not available for APO/FPO destinations; U.S. territories, possessions, and freely-associated states (except for Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands, to which service is available) or mail paid with pre-canceled stamps. Service may be combined with insured and Registered Mail. Restricted delivery is available if purchased with insurance for over $50 or Registered Mail.
